Seven Card Stud

Seven card stud is one of the more popular poker games. In fact at one time it was the most popular variation of poker until Texas Hold ‘Em rose to meteoric popularity. Below are the rules for playing seven card stud.

Two to eight players can play seven card stud and each player is dealt seven cards. The hand values are the same as with other poker games. The person dealt the highest showing hand is the first to bet and then betting proceeds clockwise around the table.

After everyone has placed their bets, each person is dealt two cards face down and one card face up. Betting will commence again after which the dealer deals another card to each player. This is repeated three more times.

By this time some will have folded, others may be bluffing, and it is time for the final card to be dealt face down to each player. This is followed by the final round of betting then the showdown to determine the winner of the hand.

There have been many variations of the game played over the years, one of the most common is to make certain cards wild. The wild card is generally called by the dealer and he could make one eyed Jacks wild, or sevens wild, or however he wants to play the hand.
