Types of bonuses

Deposit Bonuses

These are the most common type of bonus you will encounter and it’s by far the most popular bonus not just in online casinos, but in poker rooms, bingo rooms and sports betting sites. It probably owes its popularity to the fact that it’s one of the safest bonuses casinos can give out since it doesn’t carry the risk which free money offers do.

Deposit bonuses are simply put free money but with certain requirements. In other words, the casino will give you free money but it asks that you make a deposit first and not withdraw the deposited money until you have bet a certain amount on certain games within a certain time frame. They will add the bonus to your account and you can start using it right away, but you will not be able to properly enjoy it until these requirements have been met. The bonus itself is a percentage match of the amount of money you deposited. It could be less, equal or over the amount of money you deposited. For example, you could get 50%, 100% or 200% of the deposited amount matched in bonus money.

The higher the bonus amount, the more restrictions the casino will place on your account.

Before accepting a deposit bonus:

Make sure to read the wagering requirements documentation and the casino T&C.

Bonuses are never “too easy” to clear. Always make sure to get confirmation from the casino as to the requirements, games allowed, and time to release, etc.

Always check if the “turnover” requirements include deposit and bonus amounts or just deposit amount or just bonus amount. Either of the last two is OK, but having to turnover your deposit plus bonus an X amount of times, might be asking for too much.

No-Deposit Bonuses

These types of bonus are far less common as they have been the target of “bonus abusers” for many years. These bonuses do not require you to make a deposit to receive them, they are designed to give you a taste of the action, to allow you to play at the casino for free in hopes that you will like it, stay and deposit and gamble your own money. They usually are quite small, almost never reaching more than €15 to €20. They can also come in the form of free chips, free spins, free dice throw, etc.

The fact that these bonuses are the same free money does not mean they are free from restrictions. In fact they have even more strict wagering requirements than regular deposit bonuses. Make sure to understand these requirements when accepting a free money offer from a casino.

Cashback bonuses

Cashback bonuses are comparable to rakeback in poker. In both cases players get a percentage of their wagered money back as reward for their game play. In the case of cashback, its actually more of a compensation for money lost whereas rakeback is money paid back from the fees charged by the poker room.

Cashback bonuses are very rare and only a handful of casinos offer it. Casino review has amongst it approved list of best online casinos quite a few cashback promotions. Not everybody is eligible for cashback, its usually reserved for more frequent players who gamble significant amounts of money every month. And since its based on the losses suffered over a specific period, receiving cashback is actually sort of a consolation prize. It is much better though than going home empty handed. There is also a limit as to how much money you can get and it usually never exceeds 10% to 15% of your losses for the last few weeks or last month.
